VR Arcade opens – bringing virtual reality to Baltic Triangle

VR Arcade opens – bringing virtual reality to Baltic Triangle

VR ARCADE had its launch event last week and its primed to introduce the Baltic Triangle to the limitless possibilities of virtual reality. Prosecco, beer and nibbles on arrival, curious revellers were given a personally guided tour around the new virtual reality arcade to see what all the hype was about.

A family owned business, pioneered by daughter Alex Wilson, VR ARCADE welcomed the Baltic Triangle and others for a press opening. The aim for the arcade is to push virtual reality as something not just for committed gamers and tech heads but for everyone. With four custom made booths specially kitted out with the latest virtual reality technology, Alex and her family have stocked the store with games for all ages and gaming abilities. They also have a range of detailed virtual reality experiences such as an Apollo 11 tour, Google Earth immersion and David Attenborough’s First Life themed VR that transports users to the world before human existence.

The store is open to everyone and is also available to hire for parties and events. Alex Wilson discussed the potential of virtual reality and aims to promote the experience as inclusive and sociable:

“I really wanted it to be a social thing, it’s hilarious when you play VR at parties, especially with your friends and they’re all laughing at you. The developers (of the games) know that getting everyone involved is important.”

Initially, the idea of VR Arcade was Alex’s mother’s idea and she pushed the family to develop and open the store in Liverpool. She also told us that her family are the main influencers for the store and that it has been a real team effort for all of them.

Cool concrete flooring and minimalist chipboard walls, VR Arcade is another perfect fit for the Baltic Triangle area. The open plan layout, along with the rustic and quirky styling of the shop, fits in well with the area’s innovative and attractive aesthetic. Alex added: “The open plan space reflects the Baltic’s industrial style. We thought about going to Williamson Square for a while but being in the Baltic is just the perfect environment for us.

VR Arcade is certainly one to watch out for in the near future. Whether you are a serious gamer or just curious novice, this new experience is a perfect place for anyone interested in exploring the limits of their imagination. The Wilson family’s passion for this ever-growing industry is compelling and  their belief in the potential for VR technologies to change our society is difficult to argue with.
