Young women from Liverpool are being encouraged to get involved in the music industry. Musicians, performers, event organisers, journalists and photographers and technicians are all invited.
The initiative, called Bangin’ Pans, kicks off with a launch at Constellations. The night includes music from female-led performers Soul Rays, Science of the Lamps and Me & Deboe. It includes an opportunity to hear more about the project, get involved and network. It will culminate in a bandeoke/open mic session, giving new female musicians a chance to join in.
Workshops
Creating the next generation of Liverpool’s music heritage, Bangin’ Pans will run weekly sessions at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC in the Baltic Triangle. If you are – or know – young women aged 14+, invite them to get involved. (Further workshops will run from Birkenhead’s The Hive Youth Zone.)
A ‘Band in a Day’ workshop will also help young musicians create a band, rehearse and perform, all in the course of one day. Volunteering opportunities at Baltic’s grassroots arts and music festival, Threshold, will also follow.
“We’re delighted with the response we’ve had – it’s been amazing. Those of us working in the music and creative sector know that more can be done to support young women to get in to, and then progress, in the music industry. That’s what Bangin’ Pans is about. Look out for a whole new generation of amazing new musical talent emerging – both on stage and across the industry!” says project manager Christine Spriggs.
Sessions at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC start with a taster on Thursday 7 February; weekly sessions start from February 14. Sign up via the Bangin’ Pans website – www.banginpans.co.uk.
