One of Liverpool’s most ambitious independent art events of 2020 will see 8 separate exhibitions from the cities leading artist groups come together to form the second in a series of collaborations aimed at introducing a selection of the city’s most exciting artists to the public.
Shuffle was created by artist Max Mallender, 29, artistic director at The Royal Standard (TRS) an artist-led gallery, studio complex and registered charity, based in Liverpool. 2020’s first Shuffle will be held for one night only from 6pm-10pm on Thursday 6 February in Northern Lights and will incorporate the collective work of 8 art collectives.
Max has been working as an artist in the Baltic Triangle and has worked on a number of the Baltic’s most eye-catching street art. He his now exploring the possibilities of bringing Liverpool’s art scene closer together and has created Shuffle as a vehicle by which to achieve this.
Max: “Shuffle is a one-night event designed to encourage people to experience the wealth of artistic talent coming from Liverpool’s independent organisations and artist-led spaces. It’s an opportunity for artists and people interested in the city’s exciting, creative talent to come together as a community through an enjoyable night of exhibitions,” says Max.
This February’s collaboration builds upon the success of Max’s first test Shuffle event in November 2019 which saw spaces such as Dorothy, ROAD Studios and Convenience Gallery host the exhibitions.
On 6 February, Shuffle will be back for the second time when the public will be able to see free exhibitions by The Royal Standard (TRS), Bitch Palace, The Common Zine, ROAD presents Duke Street Studios and Studio School as well as ‘You Scratch My Back I’ll Scratch Yours’ curated by artist Ben Lunt and ‘Hagridden’ curated by Dan Waine. The event will include music all night from The Zooniverse and The Royal Standard will be hosting a bar for the evening.
More Shuffle events are planned in 2020 and in the future Max Mallender hopes to extend the idea beyond the city.
“My ambition for Shuffle is to develop the connections within Liverpool’s creative community and to celebrate the diverse work of the regions artists. In the future, I plan to invite artists and collectives from different cities to participate in Shuffle, creating a dialogue and network between the independent art spaces across the country,” explains Max.
