Today would have been the start of the Positive Vibration Festival. However, due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, these plans had to be changed. As you will already know, this year’s Positive Vibration reggae festive could not take place, but there is great news as the festival has confirmed dates for its return next year.
Effectively, this year’s Positive Vibration has now been postponed until 11 & 12 June 2021. All purchased tickets for 2020 will be honoured and will be applied to next year’s festival – therefore, if you have already bought a ticket, you are advised to keep hold of it, as it will still be valid for Positive Vibration 2021.
In a statement posted on Positive Vibration’s social media pages, festival organiser (and beloved Baltic triangle renaissance man), Rory Taylor announced: “Like many other events and festivals, we’ve had to make the tough decision of postponing this year’s festivities.
We were really excited to be returning to the Baltic Triangle and couldn’t wait to see all of your wonderful faces, but the health, safety and well-being of the audience, performers, staff, volunteers and everyone else involved in the festival is paramount”.
In addition to the live music, Positive Vibration will also play host to a number of different events: For the Family Over the festival weekend, there will be a plethora of activities and workshops for all the family, including dub poetry classes with Levi Tafari + Curtis Watt, arts & crafts with Square Pegs, screen-printing with The Paper Moon, Capoeira classes with Capoeira For All, live performances from Staged Kaos, plus lots more.
Children + young people are welcome to the festival on both days, with those under 12 years old being granted free entry.
Reggae Q&A is one of the most engaging aspects of the festival – a panel discussion which focuses on the impact of reggae on British music, culture & society. Next year’s panel will be chaired by music journalist, John Robb and will feature other industry experts, TBA.
Another festival highlight is the Art of Reggae – this incredible exhibition, which supports the Alpha Boys School in Jamaica, will showcase 100 reggae-inspired posters, designed by illustrators and artists from over 40 countries.
All posters can be bid on via silent auction. Further information on the exhibition and launch will be announced in due course. Jamdown Market A host of traders offering a diverse selection of food, drink, records, clothes, arts & crafts, jewelry, health, and well-being. We congratulate Rory and his team on working so hard to make this all happen and for keeping the festival going in such difficult circumstances. Just to reiterate, all the venues, line-up and other activities planned for this year will roll over into next year, so you will not miss out.
Check out what’s on here and start getting yourself excited about all the great things you’ll be able to enjoy next summer!
