Baltic designers, Dorothy release a nostalgic new print celebrating 50 years of gaming
Dorothy has realised a new print that reimagines some of the most significant video and arcade games from the last 50 years, as a series of graphic postal stamps. Beginning in 1972 with the release of Pong, a simple electronic video game that blew our tiny minds and kickstarted the wheels of a billion-dollar entertainment industry, through to 2022 and the release of the epic and immersive role-playing game Elden Ring.
Our Stamp Sheet: Classic Video Games print celebrates 42 much-loved and much-played video games that were for one reason, or another deemed the best of their time, spanning decades, generations, developers and consoles. Including classic arcade games Asteroids and Pac-Man, brain taxing puzzlers Tetris and Portal 2, side-scrolling platformers Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros., button mashing fighting games Street Fighter II and Tekken 3, first-person shooters Goldeneye 007 and Call of Duty, vast open world adventures Grand Theft Auto IV and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, life simulations The Sims and Animal Crossing, the massively multiplayer World of Warcraft, and the family favourite (often wheeled out at Xmas) Wii Sports.
Each stamp features an abstract graphic illustration inspired by the game, providing a subtle visual clue for dedicated gamers to decipher.
