August Bank Holiday is a huge day in the Baltic Triangle and with lots of great events spread out across the area there’s no shortage of things to get up to. We have created a list of some of the highlights of the weekend so that you can work out your schedule and ensure you get to see and do as much as possible. Cheers!
Yard & District
If you love house music then be prepared for PsycheMagik at Yard & District this Sunday. The UK duo, known for their beautiful production work, prolific remixing skills, obscenely vast record collections and transcendent mixtape journeys, are being heralded as a truly unique and positive presence across today’s music scenes. Added to the promise of delivering ‘demented beats’ then you have an idea of what’s in store. Psychemagik’s first appearance on wax was an edit of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’, which quickly found its way into the record bags of veterans like Tom Middleton and Greg Wilson. The duo have since released an impressive array of highly acclaimed original productions, remixes and edits. They play regularly at major festivals, clubs and special events around the globe – they are in Liverpool this weekend so do not miss the opportunity of hearing them play.
On Air
After their launch event last year, On Air have put on great event after great event. Kicking off the bank holiday celebration this Friday is the launch event for On Air’s new live music residency with the award winning ‘Incredible 11’ – an eleven-piece orchestra performing classic hip-hop from the likes of Biggie, Tupac, Dre, Jay-Z and TLC. They are accompanied by world champion scratch master, DJ Rasp and the mercurially talented, MC-Julien. If you love 90’s & 00’s Hip Hop this is the night for you!
Tusk
Bank Holiday Sunday sees the launch of the ‘Tusk Acoustic Lounge’ with live music throughout the day and night. For those seeking relaxed Sunday vibes, good food and a colourful cocktail or two then this is the place for you. Tusk are also well-known for rolling out the red carpet for all you dog lovers out there so if you’re worried about leaving the pooch at home…don’t. Just take them along to Tusk where they’ll be warmly welcomed…and probably asked for a selfie or two!
Baltic Market
Three-day weekend? How about a five-day weekend as Baltic Market host a series of events across the bank holiday weekend starting on Thursday with a half price Prosecco offer. Friday sees a funk and soul special with live bands and DJs. Saturday includes an outdoor and indoor makers market accompanied with live music. Sunday is the big night as the market hosts an 80s disco and for the weekend come down, there’s a family friendly offering all day Monday. There is genuinely something for everyone … see you there!
Constellations
August Bank Holiday is a huge day in the city and Constellations are putting together a jam packed weekend of fun to celebrate their last summer at the venue. OpenAir party has grown to become one of the highlights of their annual programme – presenting a night of music, sights, sounds and good company on the dancefloor. They have invited some amazing guests including debut performances from artists Sammy Dee, UZU, Nerram and Ramsay. In addition to all this, Constellations are also putting on a summer BBQ presented by Four to the Floor and there will also be a Pop up Life Drawing and Street Poetry event. This really will be a weekend to savour so do not miss the opportunity of spending the last August bank holiday at Constellations.
Hinterlands
Hinterlands is the new event space from the minds behind Constellations. In just under a year, they have established themselves as one of the most innovative event spaces in the city. Hinterlands presents a two-day street party with live music and DJs playing across the Saturday & Sunday of this bank holiday. Music is curated by Sort Rehearsal Studios with something to cater for a range of different tastes – including funk, soul, house, disco, jazz and indie rock. There will be a pop-up Smirnoff Vodka Bar. This will be a family-friendly event with even the dogs welcome to the party.
Camp & Furnace
Camp & Furnace know how to throw a party – those of us who have witnessed Bongo’s Bingo will testify to that! For this bank holiday, Camp & Furnace have come up with something a little extra special – The Ultimate 80s Party. Expect non-stop Tainted Love nostalgia, and all the biggest and best hits of the 80’s all night long! For added nostalgic value there will be free Babycham for the first 50 guests, a glitter station and a photo booth. So, dust off your sweatbands, leg warmers…and double denim if you dare…
The Tank Room
Another fantastic weekend at The Tank Room as they presents a two-day bank holiday treat of live music & DJ sets.. Kicking things off on Saturday will be MaschinenFunk residents Mr.Paul & Moritz tas they take the helm once again and are joined by special guests Nolan, Flossy (Down To Funk) & Feral State. Then on Sunday, a more family-friendly event sees live music from Kenny & The Energy on the outdoor terrace – expect banjos, ukeleles, beatboxing, rapping & moonwalking. This is followed with a set by mashup legends The Weird Beards and finishes up with an evening of indie and britpop classics spun by Nick Cope.
