Long known as a city bursting with culture, Liverpool street art now goes hand in hand with its rich football and musical origins.
For All Liverpool’s Liver Birds by independent artist Paul Curtis is by far one of the most renowned street art murals there is. And this latest research finds that it is the third hottest piece of street art right now, whilst Paul himself is the fourth most Instagrammed artist.
Analysis of street art Instagram posts tagged in the north between June and July finds that Liverpool’s Liver Birds mural makes the top five most loved league. Contemporary street artist Sam Bates aka Smug, self-titled ‘big wall painter’ Jim Vision and graffiti artist Akse also chart for having the hottest pieces right now.
Looking into the street art pieces that perform best overall, the research discovers that the top three themes are people, celebrities and animals.
Looking inward at Liverpool, the Paul Curtis murals are still amongst the most photographed with three murals appearing in the top ten most snapped.

Paul Curtis who is based in Liverpool for his thoughts on the future of street art;
“There seem to be more and more people having a go at it, with very mixed end products. I feel most councils are welcoming it at the moment, as they benefit from the tourism and promotion it gets the city at no cost to themselves. The flip side, however, is that there is no guarantee of quality, so I can envisage more checks and policing of permits etc being introduced (I believe this is already the case in some cities).”
